Is The Quality of Your Education Suffering During the Pandemic?

Virtual learning is new for many institutions. For those who have historically relied on in-person instruction, keeping students engaged while providing a rigorous course load has proved difficult.

According to a recent survey by New America/Third Way “over half of students said higher ed is not a good quality when conducted online -- however, students learning online overwhelmingly say they want classes to remain in a hybrid or online format, with 76 percent agreeing overall.”

With schools continuing virtually/hybrid for the foreseeable future, schools have to find ways to improve their online instruction.

One component of quality education is collaboration. Students need to be able to hear the ideas of other students because they learn best from each other. They need to be able to share notes, ask questions, and study together. They need to work with the great writers in their class or the expert student who has taken other courses in the subject area. They need to be able to work in teams because teamwork and collaboration improve the overall quality of the education they receive.

Student engagement is far more difficult in online courses and commenting on other students’ work on a message board because it’s required for a grade is just not collaboration. Students don’t like forced interaction, most people don’t. Telling students to exchange numbers or introduce themselves while the cameras are off and everyone is muted, doesn’t create authentic connections.

Students need opportunities for genuine and organic collaboration, something that’s missing in professor-directed assignments. We understand, and we took a very unique approach to bring students together.
