Miami Dade College Raises Pass Rates in STEM with CircleIn

The administration, staff and professors at Miami Dade College (68% Pell, 58% first Generation, 36% online, and 100% commuter) were actively trying to shrink the failure rates of students in Math, Science, and English. They well executed several in house supports like Peer Led Team Learning (similar to SI or embedded tutoring), but the courses continued to be a fall on their list of gatekeeper, high DFW rate courses..

They knew the high impact practice of Peer Led Learning worked and they just needed a tool to help scale it equitably to enable all students to engage as a commuter school with a working, adult and online population. They also have over 7,000 dual enrollment students who they cannot reach with traditional student supports. MDC partnered with us at CircleIn to provide students a solution to build better study habits and give and receive help from their classmates (Virtual Peer Led Learning).

Take a look at the findings below in the chart…

At CircleIn, we are grateful for our National Science Foundation support and we are in a position to help repeat the results for community colleges who are also trying to solve a similar problem of shrinking the failure rate in historically difficult to pass courses.
